American International School, Dhaka, Bangladesh

The American International School is situated in the diplomatic zone of Baridhara in Dhaka. MDM were briefed to create a design that would extend the two-storey building to incorporate a third and fourth storey, housing specialized functions, including MS laboratories, and sports facilities, including tennis and squash courts.

The building is constructed from steel column and beam with RCC deck slab. To ensure classrooms are soundproof, external walls are cavity wall and windows are double glazed. Lightweight imported blocks were used for the internal walls to reduce the dead load of the building.

The skin of the building was designed to use materials that are suitable for Bangladeshi weather conditions, such as exposed bricks and brick claddings and plastered walls. The sports courts are surrounded by fencing which was designed by MDM architects.

The building was completed in 30/06/2010.
