MDM was commissioned to renovate and extend the Talisman garments factory in Savar EPZ, Dhaka. The site was surrounded by other garment factories, and the client wanted the new building to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
The two-story building has a ground floor that is primarily used for factory space, and a first floor that contains both factory and office space. The ground floor houses the fabric and storage area, trims and accessories, finished goods warehouse, and packing area. The first floor contains fabric storage, trims and accessories, cutting section, finished goods warehouse, and office rooms. MDM also designed a mezzanine floor to make efficient use of space.
The building skeleton is made of steel beams and columns, and the deck slab is designed to withstand the weight of the clothing machines. Each elevation is a composition of brick walls and glazing, and aluminum louvers are used on the front facade to control natural light. In accordance with international health and safety standards, the building has eight fire exit stairs and a number of service lifts.
The renovation and extension of the Talisman garments factory was a complex project, but MDM was able to deliver a building that meets the client’s needs and exceeds their expectations. The new building is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, and it will help Talisman to compete with other garment factories in the region.
