British Council, Dhaka & Chittagong, Bangladesh

MDM were commissioned to redesign the interior of the British Council head office in Bangladesh. Originally a simple residential one-storey brick building, the brief was to transform the interior space for office use and give it a modern look.

To maintain coherence with the existing building, MDM’s design made use of simple geometric shapes and colours. Paint was a major element of the design: interior walls were painted in white, red, blue, yellow and orange and IES spotlights were directed at the walls to create different shades of colour.

Wooden partition walls were installed to create new spaces and glass doors were added to make the communication between staff and customers easier. A false ceiling was designed to feature modern lighting and hide mechanical wires. The floors were decorated with marble and tiles, depending on the function of the space. This vibrant environment was designed to have a positive impact on employees’ energy, encouraging them to work efficiently.
