The existing American International School is situated at Baridhara, the diplomatic zone in Dhaka city. MDM has designed level 3 and 4 of the building with the composite structure. The extended areas has specialized functions such as MS Labs, Tennis court and Squash court etc.
MDM has worked in stages; first the extension and renovation of Music room and auditorium was done. In second stage, the elementary and middle schools were extended and the management offices were relocated. In third stage, extension of high school and art room was completed. In fourth stage, middle school level 3 extension was done consisting of two MS laboratories, four general laboratories, two classrooms, office space, storerooms and toilets. Level 4 contains one tennis court, two squash courts and other sports facilities.
Building structure is made of steel column and beam with RCC deck slab. All external walls (middle school) are cavity walls to protect classrooms from noises. Double glazed windows were used for reducing the noise from the playing field. Lightweight imported blocks were used for the internal walls to reduce the dead load of the building.
The work was completed in 2010 within the targeted project completion time.
